Self Portraits of My Inner Child, (12/20)
23 x 17cm
Oil on Cotton Rag mounted on stained timber plywood
The Heart: 20 Studies of the Inner Child
I think of this series as the "Why" behind the work.
If my canvases represent the Cheesecloth, a protective, regulated boundary I aim to build every day as a father; then these miniatures are the Heart that lives inside it. They are the raw, unshielded memories of the boy I was, and the man I am now while raising my own children at that same pivotal age.
In providing my children with the emotionally aware, validated environment I was once denied, I am finally able to offer that same peace to my younger self. Outside of just being paintings, these small artworks hold decades of evidence of a survival that has transitioned into a resolution. They represent the heart I am finally strong enough to protect.
Please note, in-situ image simulated at true-to-life scale to assist with spatial placement.
